VIEW FROM BAKER BEACH
The daredevils who began construction on the Golden Gate Bridge from 1933-1937, worked under intense stress and danger. The bridge is approximately 9000 feet long and stands at least over 200 feet over the violent convergence of San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean. Amazingly the construction was completed ahead of schedule and $1.3m under budget, however there was significant price paid. There were 11 deaths of workers on the bridge, most from falls into the violent meeting of the Bay and the Pacific.
