A BED OF KELP
This adorable creature calls the waters of Monterey Bay home. On most days otters can be seen right off of the viewing platforms of the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Thanks to the Fur Seal Treaty of 1911, the Marine Mammal Protection Act and the Endangered Species Act, it is now commonly seen throughout the Monterey Peninsula. and south down to the San Luis Obispo area. Once hunted to near extinction, the protections that they are granted have encouraged the numbers to climax at approximately 3000 animals.
